So the first trailer was okay. The second trailer (this week) was pretty good. And I almost didn't click on this link:

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Magical World Holds Its Share of Secrets

Wow.

Quote:
[Production Designer Lisa] Soper, a practicing pagan, started by doing tarot card readings for each of the Sabrina characters to determine their mood, color, and personality. She said she’s done this for most of her previous shows and films, including House At The End Of The Street, starring Jennifer Lawrence, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter, which featured Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka. Sabrina herself was “The Magician,” whose card features a big red cloak—hence one of the reasons why Sabrina’s main color is red, and you can spot red objects in many of the scenes she’s in. Kind of like a “follow the white rabbit” thing.

Those tarot readings, along with other information about the characters and their journeys, were used to help create their bedrooms, each of which tell a hell of a lot about them and where they’re headed. For instance, there’s Susie Putnam (Lachlan Watson), one of Sabrina’s friends who’s being bullied at school for not conforming to gender norms. Susie’s room is full of bugs, butterflies, and other creatures that undergo metamorphosis, as that’s something the character is going through as well.

Soper explains this hallway of shoes with women’s names on them: “When Zelda goes out and gets mad at somebody, she casts a hex on them. And then she binds it to the shoe, comes back, puts it there. And as long as it’s there, she keeps the spell on them.”

Drops 10/26 and they're already filming season 2.

I have no idea what any of this is, but my interest is piqued.

Sabrina is an old Archie Comics character. The Archie brand has had a bit of a renaissance in the past decade, in the comics. I was never into the Archie high school romance comics, even as a kid. Five years ago there was a lot of buzz around a comic called "Afterlife with Archie", a mashup of Archie and The Walking Dead. It was really good and creepy and not at all for kids. It's allegedly still ongoing but after five years and ten 22-page issues, I am not holding my breath for the next one. Too bad, it was great.

Aaaaaaaanyway, the writer was immediately made creative director for the whole brand and then the dark teen drama Riverdale was on CW. I haven't watched it, I don't really have any nostalgia for any of these characters and I can only tolerate CW for a few episodes in a row. BUT Sabrina in "Afterlife" was intriguing and this show is based on that take.

All of that + Netflix + the second trailer + that article = I'm going give it a try.

Michelle and Stella have watched all of Riverdale and they liked it a lot. This might be a little too creepy for Stella.

Same thought process with AVJ. I'm going to read reviews and watch a couple of episodes.

Michelle and Stella watched the first couple of these. Thumbs up from both.

I caught one of these last night. Very fun with some decent creepiness. Reminds me of Buffy.

Fun casting with Balki as the high school principal, Dawn (from the British The Office) as a Sabirna aunt, and Jeff-from-Coupling as a bad-guy warlock.

None of the scares are bad and the creepiness is present but soft-pedaled.

I'd like to keep watching it.

Watched the pilot. That sh*t is right up my alley. Anyone who has played D&D with me knows that I love American witch mythology.

Would never have recognized Jeff from coupling in that scene.

This is a fun read. An episode by episode list of all of the horror-genre easter eggs. Suspiria appears to be a significant reference point.

they made and released a Holiday episode. It's great.

It reminds me very much of a Hellboy one-shot. Where Mignola would read about some random bit of folklore and then find out how Hellboy would fit into it.

7/7
