Picked this up because of the HBO mini starting tonight that stars Amy Adams (I'm a fan). I also loved Gone Girl like a lot of folks did. Was just reading a GR interview with the author and she said that the upcoming HBO adaptation maintained the “female rage”. That’s a great way to describe this book. And I mean that in a good way.

Keeping this review spoiler-free, I really liked it. The main character is flawed and makes poor decisions, but I never stopped rooting for her. The murder mystery is fine, but the star quality of the book is the oppressive cattiness of the small Missouri town. Wind Gap felt real and I could smell the summer gravel of the roads and I would never want to go there.
